I don't think this trading card mechanic would translate well, it'd probably be better off as a card drafting stage if there was to be a physical adaptation. Your personal bank of 4 cards is drawn from a deck of 10 that you build through buying cards in the video game. You don't want to spend all your banked cards to win one round, then leave it all up to chance in later rounds. Banked cards are one time use, you lose it for the remaining rounds if you choose to play it. So if you're at 22 and you have a -3 card, you might play it and get back down to 19 and hope your opponet doesn't get a 20. The twist is that you have cards in hand that you can play in any of the 5 rounds in order to modify that current round's hand. In essence, it's a best-of-5-rounds game of blackjack. It's part TCG deck building and part press-your-luck. I would like a physical adaptation of the Pazaak minigame from the SW:KotOR games. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.

Effects in the original decks were generally weaker. And we were able to balance the decks better.Īs for the particular cards, most of the cards that were in the original deck evolved over time. So for me, personally, the option to play a symmetrical game adds to the variety more than one extra deck. Empire feels different from playing with different decks. Different decks are just, you know, different decks. And although it may look weird (or at least unconventional) to some players, I am happy with that. So this is why we duplicated the Imperial deck and recommended it for the first plays. (I still remember a great deathmatch duel between two Canadian girls in April. It was a pleasure to watch people playing for the first time, starting to recognize patterns of enemy pieces that match the cards they have already played themselves, and starting to realize the opponent may have the same card they just summoned with a devastating effect. The game core was playtested a lot with symmetrical decks, and we felt we would be missing this. Most of the Sylvan beings were developed later, except for the Sylvan Princess and Queen, which were directly derived from witches.įrom this time also comes the decision to have two identical Imperial decks. Orcs evolved into highland clans (you may still feel the original orc savagery in them) and together with giants became the base of the Highland deck. Most of the Imperial beings have their roots in this "Pangea" deck. Later during development, this original deck was split. The decks contained a wide variety of beings, but mostly human soldiers, mages, witches, and orcs. There were two decks of cca 23 cards, and they were both the same. Tash-Kalar was originally developed as a symmetrical game. Please be patient, as there are lots of cards and it will take some time to write about all of them. In this section, I would like to tell you more about the decks and the beings in them. (To learn why, you can read about the History of the Decks below.) Tash-Kalar has four player decks, each representing one school of Tash-Kalar, and one legendary deck.īoth Imperial decks contain identical beings.
